A patellar band, also known as a patellar strap or patellar tendon strap, is a narrow support band positioned between the patella (kneecap) and the upper prominence of the tibia. It is secured around the lower part of the knee and applies direct pressure to the patellar tendon, helping to modify and focus the forces acting on this area.
The patellar tendon connects the patella to the tibia and transmits the force generated by contraction of the quadriceps muscles to the tibia, enabling knee movement and supporting proper knee function. Since the patella plays an important role in enhancing and transmitting the force generated by the quadriceps, applying pressure and adjusting the direction of forces around the patellar tendon may influence the functional performance of this mechanism.
